Body skin has a thicker epidermis than the facial skin, but fewer sebaceous glands across most of its surface — which is why it dries out faster, especially on the shins, elbows, and forearms. In this category, we have gathered body lotions, scrubs, firming preparations, and specialized treatments for stretch marks, cellulite, and atopic skin.
Product Categories
- Lotions and milks — daily hydration and moisturization. Most effective when applied to damp skin right after a shower.
- Scrubs — salt, sugar, and acid exfoliants. They remove dead epidermal cells and prepare the skin for subsequent products; for dry skin, once a week is enough.
- Firming products — with retinol, peptides, and caffeine; require consistency measured in months, not weeks.
- Anti-cellulite products — caffeine, draining extracts, warming or cooling formulas. They work best in combination with physical activity and treatments.
- For stretch marks — prevention and regularity are key; fresh stretch marks (red) respond to care much better than white ones.
- Emollients — for atopic and very dry skin; fragrance-free, formulated with ceramides and urea.
- Body sun protection — filters in creams, sprays, and sticks.
When to apply body lotion
Within three minutes of stepping out of the shower, onto skin that is still damp. This is when the lotion locks in the water left in the epidermis after bathing — applied to dry skin, the effect is noticeably weaker an hour later.
For very dry skin and atopic dermatitis (AD), emollients in the form of ointments and rich creams work better than light body milks — the latter have a high water content that evaporates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can body scrub be used every day? No. Once or twice a week is enough; doing it more often disrupts the skin barrier.
Do anti-cellulite creams work? They improve skin texture and microcirculation, but on their own they do not eliminate cellulite. The best results come from combining them with treatments and physical activity.
Is it necessary to use body sunscreen? Yes, when exposed to the sun — body skin undergoes photoaging in the exact same way as facial skin.
