Photoaging is responsible for most of the skin changes we attribute to aging: hyperpigmentation, loss of firmness, uneven skin tone, and broken capillaries. Daily sun protection is therefore not only cancer prevention, but also the most effective anti-aging care. In this category, you will find facial and body sunscreens, after-sun products, and self-tanners.
What you will find in this category
- Facial sunscreens — creams, fluids, sticks, mists, makeup bases, and tinted, mineral, and chemical versions.
- Body sunscreens — creams, sprays, and sticks, also suitable for children and sensitive skin.
- After-sun products — soothing and moisturizing, designed to prolong your tan.
- Self-tanners and spray tans — mousses, drops, gradual tanning lotions, and professional salon solutions.
- Skin preparation — pre-sun exfoliators and products to prolong the effect.
UVA, UVB, and visible light
UVB rays cause sunburn and vary in intensity throughout the year—this is what the SPF value protects against. UVA rays penetrate deeper, passing through clouds and glass, remain constant year-round, and are responsible for photoaging and hyperpigmentation. Visible light, especially blue light, is a factor in melasma—here, sunscreens with iron oxides, i.e., tinted versions, are helpful.
This is why high SPF alone is not enough for hyperpigmentation: you need a sunscreen with full UVA protection and preferably with a tinting component.
How to apply
Use half a teaspoon for the face and neck, and about 30 ml for the entire body. Apply sunscreen as the final step of your skincare routine, before makeup, 15–20 minutes before going outside. Reapply every 2–3 hours when exposed to the sun, and immediately after swimming or heavy sweating.
Frequently asked questions
Does last year's sunscreen still work? Check the expiration date and the PAO (Period After Opening) symbol on the packaging. Opened sunscreen loses its effectiveness, especially if stored at high temperatures.
Does a self-tan protect against the sun? No. DHA darkens the epidermis but provides zero UV protection.
Is a mineral sunscreen safer? It tends to be better tolerated by sensitive skin and post-procedure skin. Both types are safe and effective.
