Face cream is the product that seals your skincare routine — its job is to lock in what the previous layers delivered and rebuild the skin's protective barrier. In this category, we have gathered over four hundred creams from professional and dermocosmetic brands: day creams, night creams, sunscreens, and formulas for sensitive, oily, mature, and dehydrated skin.

Day cream vs. night cream — what is the difference

This is not just a marketing gimmick. Day creams have a lighter texture, often contain antioxidants and UV filters, and are formulated to sit well under makeup. Night creams tend to be richer, containing repairing and restructuring ingredients — retinol, peptides, acids — that are not used in the morning because they are light-sensitive or make the skin more sensitive to the sun.

If you only buy one cream, choose a night cream and pair it with a separate sunscreen in the morning. This is more effective than using a single multi-purpose cream twice a day.

How to choose the right texture for your skin type

  • Oily and combination skin — gels, gel-creams, and lightweight emulsions. A rich cream on this type of skin can increase sebum production and clog pores.
  • Dry skin — creams with ceramides, squalane, and plant butters. Dry skin suffers from a chronic lipid deficiency, so it needs an occlusive layer.
  • Dehydrated skin — this is a skin condition, not a type: it can also affect oily skin. Look for hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and panthenol, and treat the cream as a moisture-locking seal.
  • Sensitive and vascular skin — short ingredient lists free of alcohol and artificial fragrances, featuring niacinamide, panthenol, or centella asiatica.
  • Mature skin — retinoids and peptides in the evening, antioxidants and sunscreen in the morning.

How much cream to apply and in what order

A pea-sized amount for the entire face is plenty — excess product doesn't absorb better, it just sits on the surface. Cream is applied as the final step of your skincare routine, after serum, onto slightly damp skin: this helps lock in moisture more effectively.

In the morning, the order is: cleansing, toner, serum, cream, sunscreen. In the evening: makeup removal, cleansing, toner, serum or active treatment, cream. If you are using retinol and experience irritation, try the sandwich method — a thin layer of cream, retinol, cream.

Frequently asked questions

Does oily skin need a cream? Yes. Skipping moisturisation usually increases sebum production — the skin tries to "compensate" for the lack of water with oil.

Is an SPF moisturiser enough instead of a dedicated sunscreen? If it has SPF 30–50 and you apply it in the correct amount — yes. The problem is that people usually use too little skincare cream to achieve the declared protection.

How often should you change your cream? Skin does not "get used" to a product — there is no need to rotate them. Changing makes sense seasonally (richer in winter, lighter in summer) or when your skin condition changes.
