Conditioner takes care of what happens to your hair after washing: it seals the cuticles, makes detangling easier, and reduces mechanical damage. This step is the biggest factor in whether your hair looks smooth and glossy. In this category, we offer rinse-off and leave-in conditioners, in both cream and spray formulas.
Types of Conditioners
- Rinse-off creams — the standard format; applied for 1–3 minutes to damp hair, focusing on lengths and ends.
- Leave-in conditioners — lighter formulas applied after washing and left in; they ease detangling and protect against blow-drying.
- Spray conditioners — the lightest option, ideal for fine hair that tends to be weighed down by cream formulas.
- Hydrating — humectants: glycerin, hyaluronic acid, panthenol.
- Reconstructive — proteins and amino acids; ideal for hair after coloring and straightening.
- Color protection — sulfate-free formulas with UV filters to safeguard pigment.
Hydration versus Proteins
This is the most common point of confusion in hair care. Hair needs a balance of both. An excess of proteins leads to stiff, rough, and brittle hair. An excess of moisture results in soft hair that lacks elasticity and is difficult to style.
In practice: if your hair feels pleasant to the touch after conditioning but lacks volume and falls flat — introduce proteins. If it feels rough despite using a mask — take a break from proteins for a few washes and focus on hydration and emollients.
How to Use
Apply conditioner only to the lengths and ends — never to the scalp. Hair should be damp, not dripping wet: excess water dilutes the product and hinders its performance. Rinse with cooler water to help seal the cuticles.
FAQ
Is conditioner necessary for short hair? For very short hair, often no. For shoulder-length hair and longer — absolutely.
Can a hair mask replace a conditioner? Masks are more intensive and used less frequently. Conditioners are meant for daily use.
Does conditioner weigh down fine hair? Cream formulas can. For fine hair, choose spray versions and apply only to the ends.
