The formula is alcohol-free. Lactic acid is part of the natural moisturizing factor and hydrates the skin, while citric acid brightens — both are alpha-hydroxy acids that help remove dead skin cells. Aloe vera leaf juice softens and soothes, and extracts of marigold, marigold (tagetes), goldenseal, sage, ivy, guarana, and cucumber provide an astringent effect.
