HA (hyaluronic acid) is a natural component of the skin, joints, and eyeballs. In the skin, it acts as a "water sponge" — binding water in an amount 1000× its weight. With age, the level of HA decreases → the skin loses moisture and volume.
In aesthetic medicine: HA is produced through fermentation, most often crosslinked — which extends its durability in tissues.
Main Types of HA Preparations
Fillers (dermal fillers)
Crosslinked HA — firm, holds shape, volumetric. Used for:
- Filling in folds and wrinkles
- Enhancing and shaping lips
- Volumetry (cheeks, jaw)
Durability: 9–18 months
HA Bioremodeling (Profhilo)
HA of very high concentration (64 mg/ml), hybrid (non-crosslinked). Does not fill — reorganizes the ECM matrix, hydrates, improves density.
Profhilo is a separate category — it is not a "cheaper filler".
Skinboosters
Low molecular weight or slightly crosslinked HA. Injected superficially into the dermis (not deeply like a filler) — hydration + slight texture improvement.

HA Mesotherapy
Non-crosslinked HA in a cocktail with other ingredients (amino acids, vitamins). More "liquid", spreads in tissues.
