Well-hydrated skin is smoother, more radiant, and more resistant to irritation. We have gathered here creams and serums with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and humectants — suitable for every skin type, including dehydrated skin.

Dehydrated skin is not the same as dry skin

Dryness is a skin type — a permanent lack of sebum. Dehydration is a temporary condition: the epidermis lacks water, and it can affect any skin type, including oily or combination skin. You can recognize it by fine lines visible during facial expressions, a greyish, dull complexion, a feeling of tightness that worsens in the evening, and makeup that "settles" into creases. A simple test: gently pinch the cheek skin — if tiny folds persist for a moment, the skin is dehydrated. The culprits are often overly aggressive cleansing, alcohol in cosmetics, air conditioning and heating, as well as acids or retinol used without an adequate moisturizing base.

Ingredients that help retain water

This collection is built around active ingredients that hydrate the epidermis and strengthen its barrier — because lasting hydration is not just about supplying water, but also retaining it within the skin:

  • Hyaluronic acid — in various molecular weights: high molecular weight hydrates the surface, low reaches the deeper layers of the epidermis.
  • Glycerin and panthenol (B5) — humectants that bind water and help soothe the feeling of tightness.
  • Ceramides and squalane — rebuild and strengthen the lipid barrier, limiting water loss from the epidermis.
  • Niacinamide — supports the barrier and helps reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

How to choose and layer your skincare routine

Layering works best: a hydrating toner or essence applied to slightly damp skin, followed by a hyaluronic acid serum, and finally an occlusive cream with ceramides or squalane that "locks in" moisture. It is worth remembering that hyaluronic acid on its own in dry air, without a sealing cream, can have the opposite effect and draw water from deeper layers — which is why the final step is so crucial. Oily and combination skin usually feels better with light, watery formulas, while dry skin prefers richer, more nourishing ones that additionally restore the lipid mantle.

If dehydration is severe or persists despite careful skincare, our specialists will help you choose ingredients tailored to your skin, and if necessary, also recommend moisturizing treatments at the institute.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between dehydrated and dry skin?

Dryness is a skin type — a permanent lack of sebum. Dehydration is a temporary lack of water in the epidermis, which can affect any skin type, including oily and combination skin. Therefore, they are treated differently: we hydrate and strengthen the barrier for dehydrated skin, and additionally nourish dry skin.

Which ingredients moisturize the skin best?

Hyaluronic acid in various molecular weights, glycerin, and panthenol bind water, while ceramides, squalane, and niacinamide strengthen the barrier and help retain moisture in the epidermis. The best effect comes from combining humectants with barrier-rebuilding ingredients.

In what order should moisturizing cosmetics be applied?

Layering works well: first a hydrating toner or essence on slightly damp skin, then a serum with hyaluronic acid, and finally a moisture-locking cream with ceramides or squalane. This final step is essential because hyaluronic acid alone in dry air can have the opposite effect.

Can oily skin also be dehydrated?

Yes. Dehydration is a condition, not a skin type, so it also affects oily and combination skin — often manifesting as simultaneous shine and tightness. For such skin, light, watery moisturizing formulas without heavy oils work best.
