Dehydrated skin is not the same as dry skin

Dryness is a skin type — a permanent lack of sebum. Dehydration is a temporary condition: the epidermis lacks water, and it can affect any skin type, including oily or combination skin. You can recognize it by fine lines visible during facial expressions, a greyish, dull complexion, a feeling of tightness that worsens in the evening, and makeup that "settles" into creases. A simple test: gently pinch the cheek skin — if tiny folds persist for a moment, the skin is dehydrated. The culprits are often overly aggressive cleansing, alcohol in cosmetics, air conditioning and heating, as well as acids or retinol used without an adequate moisturizing base.

Ingredients that help retain water

It is worth remembering that hyaluronic acid on its own in dry air, without a sealing cream, can have the opposite effect and draw water from deeper layers — which is why the final step is so crucial. Oily and combination skin usually feels better with light, watery formulas, while dry skin prefers richer, more nourishing ones that additionally restore the lipid mantle.
